This summer, our students arrived at Schreiber Island ready for adventure. From the beginning, they embraced the experience with an eagerness to explore, learn, and discover what the journey had in store. Along the way, they encountered the unexpected challenges that come with travel, from changing plans to unfamiliar places. Rather than letting those moments define their experience, they learned to adapt, becoming more comfortable with uncertainty and more eager to see where the journey would take them.

That spirit of adventure carried into their time on the island. With a growing sense of curiosity, they explored the natural world with greater intention, asked questions, and developed a deeper appreciation for the places and people around them. They learned to trust the process and discovered that being a traveler means more than simply arriving somewhere. It means being open to what you encounter along the way.

Most importantly, they shared that experience with one another. New discoveries became shared memories. Challenges became opportunities to support each other. Adversity deepened the bonds of relational trust. Through these new mindsets, students experienced the island with a renewed sense of personal and collective joy.

This summer, our students embodied what it means to be travelers: curious, adaptable, adventurous, grateful, and open to the world around them. While our experience on the island is always centered on moments that build character, this year was unique because those moments revealed it. Through fifty-one weeks of preparation, along with the leadership of our student leaders and staff, we saw that character come to life.
